Moto G now getting the Android 5.0 update in India
The wait is finally over for customers of the Moto G in India as Motorola has officially started the roll out of the coveted Android 5.0 update for both the first and second generation variants. The good news was given away by Motorola's official Twitter handle, so the information is coming from the horse's mouth.
Motorola recently apologized to its customers for the delays in issuing the update to the two handsets. It is now being said that the smartphones will start seeing the updates in phases, but it's good to know that an update is currently seeding to the devices. So if you don't see it on your 1st or 2nd gen Moto G yet, make sure you remain patient and an OTA update notification should pop up any minute.
The update brings the devices to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop which is the latest build available today. Surprisingly, this version of Android was said to be reserved for tablets only, as Nexus smartphones (Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6) are yet to get the update and are running Android 5.0.1 even now.
Perhaps Motorola wants their users to have the most recent version of Android, regardless of the features it brings to the table. As far as the update changelog is concerned, the smartphone should receive significant improvements coming from Android 4.4 KitKat. Google's Material Design philosophy will be visible on almost every UI aspect, including the scrolling and the way notifications are handled.
It is also said that Motorola is using a relatively stock build of Android Lollipop here, so if you've seen Android 5.0 running on a Nexus device recently, the experience will be very similar.
To manually download the update, make sure you're on a Wi-Fi network and head over to Settings - About Phone - System Updates and the update should appear.
